Scattered along the western side of Carrick Roads, Feock is a real hidden gem.
Feock is tucked away on the shore of the Fal Estuary, and more a collection of hamlets than a single place – the church, the village centre up the hill, and various creeks and coves tucked into the landscape.
Feock Church is the centrepiece – perched on the hill above the water. It’s one of Cornwall’s most beautifully positioned churches, and the walk down the lane to reach it feels like stepping back several decades. The churchyard has memorial stones to sailors and shipwrights, reminders that these creeks built vessels for centuries.
The village spreads inland from here – lanes winding through farms and woodland, with occasional glimpses of water through the trees. It’s walking country more than destination country, which suits it perfectly.
Secret spots: Loe Beach is accessed via a footpath from Feock – a tiny creek-side beach that’s perfect for swimming at high tide and has a watersports centre, cafe and sauna. The Punchbowl and Ladle is tucked into Feock’s woodland – a thatched pub with seriously good food. Point is another secret spot for quay jumping, paddleboarding and swimming – it’s a charming collection of waterside houses before the creek opens into Carrick Roads.
Where to eat: The Punchbowl and Ladle for gastro pub dining in a properly atmospheric thatched building. Otherwise, you’re minutes from The Old Quay Inn in Devoran for another traditional village pub with a great atmosphere.
Getting there: Feock sits between Truro and Devoran, accessed via winding lanes off the A39. The King Harry Ferry is five minutes away for crossing to the Roseland.
Nearby discoveries: Devoran and Restronguet Creek to the south, Truro to the north, the King Harry Ferry to the Roseland to the east. Perfect for circular walks along the creeks.
